Wickety Wak Frontman Greg Doolan Passes Away
The frontman of Wickety Wak, Greg Doolan, has passed away following a short battle with cancer.
The 73-year-old lost his fight on Thursday afternoon at Brisbane’s Wesley Hospital.
He was surrounded by family when he passed away peacefully according to the band.
Taking to their official Facebook page, Doolan’s Wickety Wak’s fellow band members remembered their “dear friend”.
“A family man, a friend and an inspiration to so many, it's hard to believe that he has left us so soon after being diagnosed with cancer last month,” they wrote.
They told of Doolan’s love of the stage.
“He recently spoke of the enjoyment he got from working with and watching other local entertainers and the absolute thrill that he got when working on any stage to his beloved fans,” they said.
Fellow Wickety Wak band member Pahnie Jantzen passed away in March 2013 after also battling cancer.
The band was a Queensland favourite from the moment they first hit the stage in 1975.
Their song Moonlight Marvel was a top ten hit and a classic with fans.
Outside of the band, Doolan also enjoyed a successful solo career.
Along with his Wickety Wak performances, Doolan was a staple on the local entertainment scene with his wife Laura.
A good friend of 4KQ's, our thoughts are with Laura and their family at this time.
