Dr Hook's The Wild Colonial Boy Is Gary's Lost Classic

The Wild Colonial Boy is a traditional anonymous Irish-Australian ballad, and there are many different versions.

The original version was about Jack Donahue, an Irish rebel who became a convict and then a bushranger. Eventually he was shot dead by police.

Dr Hook recorded his version on American Bandstand in 1981, but versions were also recorded by Rolf Harris, John Doyle, Larry Kirwan and The Clancy Brothers.
