This Is Your FIRST Look At Emily Blunt As Mary Poppins
If you’re 25 or over, no doubt you watched the original Mary Poppins film starring the beautiful Julie Andrews.
‘Just A Spoonful Of Sugar’ still puts me in an instantly chipper mood when I hear it and is still as memorable as it was when the movie was released, back in 1964.
So when I heard they were re-booting the movie, I was more than a little concerned.
It wasn’t until I heard they were casting Emily Blunt, who’s had a STELLAR year by the way - starring in ‘Girl On The Train’ recently, I was relieved.
As suspected, the first leaked shot of Blunt playing ‘Mary Poppins’ is adequately beautiful and whimsical, as she stands presumably outside the ‘Banks’ residence in a blue coat and red tipped hat, with just the profile of her face visible. Entertainment Weekly notes that we see a completely new version of her bottomless bag.
It makes us SO excited for the new flick, which is set 20 years after the events of the original movie, and takes place in London during the Great Depression.
The Banks kids are grown up, but need Mary more than ever.
We’re not sure when it will launch YET, but we do know that the rest of the cast is STELLAR, featuring Lin-Manuel Miranda, who plays a lamplighter named Jack, Meryl Streep as Mary Poppins' cousin, and Colin Firth as William Weatherall Wilkins, the legendary Angela Lansbury as a balloon vendor, and even a cameo from Dick Van Dyke.
