The Logie Awards Are Leaving Melbourne And Heading Up North
This year's Logie Awards in Melbourne have turned out be to the city's last after 30 consecutive years.
The Victorian government on Sunday said it has decided to withdraw its bid to host next year's TV Week Logie Awards.
"We're proud to have been home to the Logies for more than 30 years, but it's time to pass on the baton," Tourism and Events Minister John Eren said in a statement.
The awards night will likely be held in Queensland from 2018 onwards, News Corp Australia reports.
Mr Eren said the government decided not to put its hand up for next year's event after talking to key stakeholders and conducting a comprehensive event analysis.
The Logies have been held at the Palladium ballroom in Crown Casino since 1997.
Melbourne has hosted the annual award night every year since 1987.
Sydney has hosted the annual television award night a handful of times since it began in 1959.
