Julie Andrews Blesses Mary Poppins Reboot

Julie Andrews, who played the iconic Mary Poppins in the original 1964 Disney musical, has given her blessing to a planned reboot.

Reports that Disney planned to create a modern take of the original Mary Poppins movie surfaced in September.

"I'm kind of interested in it. It's not going to be a recreation of the original," Andrews told TODAY.

"And after 50 years since it was made, it's about time, I guess."

Andrews was also asked who she thought should play the singing nanny she made famous with songs A Spoonful of Sugar and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious."(An

ne Hathaway) sings wonderfully and she's so talented, she can do anything! And (Emily Blunt), whom I adore, also."

Hathaway, a fan favourite to take up the role, however played down the casting rumours saying, "No one's talked to me about it."

Chicago filmmaker Rob Marshall has been placed in charge of the film, which will be set 20 years after the classic 1964 musical.
