90s Star of Murphy Brown And Cheers, Jay Thomas Dies
US comedian Jay Thomas, known for roles in TV comedy shows Murphy Brown and Cheers has died after a battle with cancer. He was 69.
"Jay Thomas was one of the funniest and kindest men I have had the honour to call both client and friend for 25 years plus," his publicist Tom Estey told dpa. "He will be dearly missed by so many."
Thomas was best known for his role as Jerry Gold on "Murphy Brown," which earned him Emmys in 1990 and 1991 for outstanding guest actor in a comedy series.
He also had a recurring guest role on "Cheers" and appeared on other US TV series including "The Golden Girls" and "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit."
